what about Jack's masturbation and fellatio addiction

@christo930 I'm in NA, so maybe the fellowships are slightly different, but I've never seen anyone told they can't take medication. I've seen sponsors talk to sponsees about being on their toes even more if they are assigned pain medication. And to tell their medical practitioners about their addiction, but yeah. Your experience strikes me as nothing like mine.

@christo930 Do you know how many peoplel die every year from AA sponsors telling their sponsees to not take meds and to pray instead, ESPECIALLY mental illness meds? Telling their newcomer sponsees that they aren't really "clean" aren't really "in recovery" taking those pills, has caused suicides, relapse of mental illness symptoms, etc. Even blood pressure and diabetes medicines have been the target "You think you're clean sticking yourself with a needle every day?"...

@FoggyRoad81 So as usual, when the person gets clean, it's the programs win, if he doesn't stay clean, it's his fault. And what "tools" are you talking about? Take away praying sponsorship (an iffy proposition to begin with) and the useless meetings and what "tools" are you left with? I never wanted a drink more than when I was in AA. It's < worthless and the stats bare that out.

@christo930 You are being dishonest. NO 12 step program promises a cure from addiction just from walking in the door. The literature says that it is an ACTION program. If you chose to not follow the tools given to you when you walk in the door and relapse, thats a choice you make. More importantly, if you do relapse (as many do) 12 step programs give you the tools to keep that relapse from spiraling into death. It is a form of religion, but you don't have to believe in God to work a program.
christo930 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@FoggyRoad81 But fails for the majority, the overwhelming majority. AAs own internal research finds a 5% recovery rate. That is cruel, downright cruel to the people who show up expecting help and get religion instead with a 5% success rate.

@christo930 12 step programs only work if you work them and make the decision to change your life. You don't know anything about 12 step programs if you think they are only about stopping using drugs or drinking. They are about changing your life. If you don't think it works for you, thats fine. But it works for lots of other people.
