At least 40 percent of people who abuse alcohol have a serious mental-health issue -- like depression or anxiety -- that leads them to self-medicate with liquor. Treating any underlying condition may help curb your alcohol dependency.Step 2: Get counseling to find ways to resist the urge to drink. And don't assume that rehabilitation has to be in-house; research shows that outpatient rehab can also be effective.Tip: Cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational enhancement therapy have proven particularly helpful in treating people with addictions.Step 3: Ask a doctor about the medications available to treat alcoholism. Some help reduce the craving for alcohol, while others discourage drinking by making people feel sick after they've had liquor.Tip: Drugs that treat alcoholism are meant to supplement, not replace, counseling.Step 4: Join a support group. Search online for options or ask your place of worship for assistance.Step 5: Lean on friends and family members to help you maintain your sobriety. People with strong support systems do better, and your loved ones will want to see you succeed.Step 6: Stick it out. Alcoholism is a chronic illness, and relapses may happen. But if you can stay with a treatment program for 90 days, you have a better chance of overcoming your problem for good. Thanks for watching How To Seek Help For Alcoholism! Alcoholics Anonymous is a religious cult dressed up to look like a treatment for alcoholism.12 step programs fail 95% of the time. Don't waste your time... Do your homework before getting involved with AA.

I know this is about alcohol.I made my original comment in response to peoples posts on this page and others. The ones who think pot is the solution to everything-i mean everything- including alcoholism.what the hell is your point?

this is not about weed its about alcohol. I smoked weed for a long time and finally got bored with it as it made me paranoid and grumpy. I am now a grumpy old woman who still drinks too much but feels better than I did when I was smoking weed as well and don't drink so much either which isgood

If you could afford all those things they recommend in here you probably wouldnt have a problem!. If you want to give up more than a few beers a night and think you have a problem I would recommend a different site to this. This seems to be for christians who think their odd glass of wine is evil. I think even jesus tliked a drink as he turned water into wine at one time. A few glasses of wine or a pint of beer is not a problem!

ya, i get all that.I am very aware of such things concerning the subject. should be legal......cure for booze-absolutly not.Hey if it works then fine.now i am talking about hard drinkers. And yes i think some people get carried away with the weed thing and all its glory......but medicinaly is another subject.I still toke once in awile...but it will never replace the booze no matter how much i fucking hated it-dont make sence?thats the mind of an alcoholic.peace.

Because it is one "drug" that is not addictive. Have you ever seen a pothead beat his/her spouse or children? Alcoholics tend to have mood swings once the addiction is full blow, same goes for drug addicts. I'm not saying yes smoke weed and get stoned, but it is great for medicinal purposes since it can be taken so many different ways and YOU DONT HAVE TO GET STONED to see the affects.

Because it somehow helps the nervous system to recreate. At least, that's what I've witnessed...

nothing against weed, but it floors me how people think its a cure all for everything. alcoholics drug of choice is acohol.why do people see smoking weed, although not as harmfull as other drugs i(ncluding alcohol),an answer to other addictions.
