Like @QualacosaDay I think that it's not the media's fault. The series 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom don't show the positive parts about being pregnant as a teenager + they tell teenagers several times about the difficulties a pregnancy brings with it. I think it depends on the way children are raised and on who they hang out with. I honestly watch those 2 programmes purely for the entertainment and I have never even thought about getting pregnant at my age (17).

everything the blonde girl said sounds SO scripted, even her laugh

(first part of this comment is underneath this one)This promotes the wrong image to begin with and makes girls believe that everything will turn out okay. Yes, parents should teach their children about responsibility but these TV shows that "provide entertainment" completely nullify anything that our parents say against these new ideals.

The key line in your comment is: "created to entertain us" - this completely defeats the point of what you're trying to say. It's sick that we're entertained with the thought of a 16/17 year old having a kid. In these shows yes it shows hard times but then it almost always turns out all right for the teenage mother, either the father stays with her to help raise the kid or she suddenly finds a way to miraculously support the child completely by herself. At least Juno did the right thing and kept the baby and gave her baby up for adoption. She knew she fucked up and took care of things, hell she even admited in the movie she wasn't ready for a baby.DON'T BLAME MEDIA FOR THESE LITTLE TEEN FUCK UPS FUCK UPS...I think whats wrong is parent's not wanting to sit down with their kids and explain the concepts of sex, parenting, etc to their kids...though 16 and pregnant does annoy the shit out of me...

I believe media does have a big influence in the rise of teen pregnancy...

I'm sorry, this is just disgusting...Having a baby without being married is bad enough, but THIS is just rediculous!

My parents didn't teach me anything about sex and it wasn't because I was such a mature teenager I knew what to stay away from. It is due to what I was exposed to. I wasn't allowed to watch certain shows. I grew up with Treehouse and Spongebob, these kids grew up with Jamie Lynn spears and Miley Cyrus. So yes media does have an effect on these children. This is what they are exposed to, no one is telling them no this is wrong anymore. Heck I'm sure 16 & pregnant causes some pregnancies nowadays.

Oh don't. Right now she is learning the best lessons in life which she won't appreciate until later, such as :1) you can't trust anybody but yourself2) men speak not from the mouth, but the zipper in their jeans3) teenagers don't know a DAMN THING.
