i agree to the extent i understood, but i believe that this 3rd alternative could be applicable if the "you" part have also read the book or knows what the third alternative is........I am saying this as most of the time while seeking for the solution.....the main difficulty that occurs is that the "you" is not ready to even listen a word specially when the "you" is my mother

I think you need to listen to what's actually being said (watch all the videos). It wouldn't be a+b, in fact he talks specifically about compromise being a lose-lose situation. The ideas is rather than your idea, my idea or a compromise, we must come up with new, unique ideas.

it's not your way or my way... but our way. ?!?!?so it's not a nor b, but a+b. But that IS a and b, not neither.

All of Dr. Covey's books are amazing! I am really looking forward to reading this book and applying what I learn.

@ascott251 I think you will need to read the book to understand the whole principle. The third alternative, is a new option used rather than the normal dichotomy. For instance, there is the of a police chief that uses a third alternative to completely change teen crime. Keep watching and it will make much more sense.

haha, the 3rd alternative isn't a 3rd alternative at all when they start to explain themselves! They split their own idea into a dichotomy: there are people who are narrow minded and selfish, and then there are people who are open minded and work together. |
